***This is an emergency bulletin for everyone in Austin.***
I need as many people who can do this to spread the word to any and all Austin contacts, DO NOT WAIT, tomorrow might be too late. This is from a trusted friend and a member of one of the internal offices of the Texas capital building who holds a significant position in the Texas government ranks. He’s also an LGBT ally.

FYI austin. From a trusted friend. “I heard at a chamber meeting this afternoon that ICE is going to do a door to door round up in Austin Thursday-Sunday. Apparently the White House heard about our Sheriff and is looking to make us an example with a big media blitz. Don’t know all your network connections and wanted to spread the word so organizations can encourage immigrant families to get out of town if possible”

The above is copy/pasted from a Dallas activist group’s Facebook page. The source has to remain anonymous for their safety but they’ve been verified.
Reblogging per request – normally this would go in RFM, but it’s an immediate potential event, and the “What to do if ICE shows up on your door” infographic is helpful regardless.
if u are a fool like me and write in google docs (??? why. love your vision.), at some point you’ve probably shoved your face under a thick comforter into pitch darkness to allow your liquefied eyeballs to re-solidify since docs doesn’t provide any default tools to MURDER THAT HELLISH WHITE BACKGROUND with and f.lux only does so much. well if you’re younger you probably don’t give a shit but after you’ve set up your 401k and find yourself proud of matching your employer’s contributions, you’re probably at that age where u leo decaprio squint at your computer screen at all hours of the day whether it’s dark or not. anyway, this exists as an add-on:
BAM
and it has those diff options on the side to keep ur pastel aesthetic intact and it helps a little bit, enabling you to go blind slower wowe isn’t that wild
Hi! Sorry to hijack your post but I thought maybe I could help with this. I suffer from chronic migraines and use gdocs A LOT for my previous jobs and currently for writing. The white background is murder and your brightness levels can only provide so much mercy.
I wasn’t aware of this add-on and I do love me some pastels, but I found out about an add-on called Dark Reader for chrome. My previous job required a lot of excel and data crunching so WHITE EVERYWHERE PAIN AUGH.
I’ll be using the images from the add-on previews since my computer is hella slow.
Dark reader is basically a color inversion add-on, but a little smarter. Sometimes it inverts photos, sometimes it doesn’t.
What I really love it is how it’s customizable
You can turnit on or off easily and set the preferences to your liking.
Absolute FAVE thing about it is that you can assign urls or websites you want darkened or excluded. So, say, you’re okay with Tumblr’s default colors you can have that excluded. Inversely, you can just put in the url of your gdoc document so that it’s the only thing inverted.
It’s been a real wonder for me and my migraines. I use it in combination with f.lux and lowest brightness settings. Hope this helps, and again, sorry for the hijack!
Dark Reader show me the advanced levels of optical comfort
As of Sunday Jan 29, Boston is the only US city pledging to admit all legal green card and visa holders, and refugees at an international airport. No detention no deportation. Anyone trying to come back to the US who is affected by the ban is being urged to reroute through Logan airport. Please share.
For anyone flying through Logan who is not familiar with the airport, likely arriving in Terminal E – there is a completely free silver line service that will take you directly to South Station, from which point you and anyone traveling with you can obtain train or bus tickets to most major destinations up and down the east coast.
The stop outside the terminal looks like this – exit from any point and walk until you find a sign like this one.
The bus to get on looks like this – you should not be asked for fare.
South Station is the fourth stop after getting on at terminal E – there will be an announcement, it may take anywhere from 20-30 minutes, depending on the time of day and how busy the traffic is.
From South Station, if you have a place to stay in Boston, you can continue on the red line and transfer trains without paying additional fees. Make sure you ask your host or the guest services at wherever you’re staying where the closest stop is and what line it is on.
If you can get a flight back out of Logan to wherever your destination is, that’s probably ideal, but if you need to stay somewhere in the mean time due to the length between your flights, the T may seem confusing, but it’s a really solid and low-cost way to get out of the airport and to a place where you can sleep or pick the next leg of your trip. Cab services, especially during high volume time periods, can turn out to be really expensive, and if you don’t know how to use the Silver Line it can be overwhelming trying to figure out where to go.
If you need help with Boston’s public transport, don’t be shy about asking someone who’s in the same terminal or on the same bus – Bostonians can be a little icy, but the only reason I know what I know is because kind strangers have helped me get from point A to point B. Hopefully this helps get you off in the right direction – and feel free to directly message me if you need any clarifications (or if you are a single person who needs somewhere to stay in the Boston area – I have an extra mattress!!)
We learned that a giant mass protest that shuts down large streets of major cities will be met with cops on their best behavior if the protests are made up of “regular” white people. We are shown that most news organizations reported favorably and used positive rhetoric (for the most part) and nice photos of families protesting together. It was viewed in a very kind light, which is the opposite of what most major (BLM for example) protests get.
If only there was a way to harness or organize the suburban white lady privilege into other protests. These women act as cop repellent because cops are far less likely to split Sharon from Accounts Payable’s head open or Sandy and her daughter Keighleeanne from Naperville or Susan the wife of a CEO. If more of these ladies showed up I think we could curb some of the violence that people of color face. Operation white shield or some shit like that. This is a way to use your privilege and power to back up what you say you believe in. I am just spitballing here, but man, I have never seen such lax police at such a large protest in my life.
Operation White Shield
I’m in
I mean…it’s worth a shot.
The more I think about it, the more convinced I am that this is a thing that needs to happen. I was talking to a former roommate from Colorado – she said that the Denver chapter of BLM has been asking whites not to show up to marches but donate instead, and I get it since there’s been problems of infiltration. But I told her a sister organization might be a good idea, since it keeps the message undiluted but keeps fellowship less fraught.
This could be that sister organization, and not just for BLM. For any protest in defense of minorities, Operation White Shield could be a thin wall of bodies between the protesters and the police – a very literal “You’ll have to go through me first.”
It’s exactly what the 2000 veterans who went to Standing Rock arrived to do – SUCCESSFULLY – and the rest of us could do it too.
Now we need organizers.
those were exactly my thoughts when i saw the first pictures rolling in. police men wearing pussy hats says it all: white women’s bodies are a bullet repellent because nothing looks so ugly on telly and gives a government of white dudes a bad rap as bleeding white bodies getting dragged into the back of a police van.
Donald Trump just approved the Keystone XL tarsands pipeline — overturning Obama’s 2015 rejection. [1]
Keystone XL would threaten dozens of rivers with oil spills, and make it virtually impossible for Canada to meet our climate targets. [2]
Today, Trump warned that he plans to “renegotiate the terms” of the project — and the media is already reporting that this could mean higher costs for Canada. [3]
Unbelievably, the Liberal government is giving Trump’s plan the thumbs-up, without any additional review of the changes to the project that Trump negotiates. That gives Trump a blank cheque to change the project terms without our approval [4]
What’s worse, Keystone XL has never faced a serious review in Canada. Harper rubber-stamped the pipeline after a sham process that didn’t even consider climate change.
A project this massive needs a careful and thorough review — especially now that Trump is promising to negotiate changes that could make Keystone even worse for Canada.
If enough of us speak out, we can convince the Liberal government to suspend Harper’s approval of Keystone XL, and put the project — including any of Trump’s changes — through a new, credible review process.
Canadians! Here is a tangible thing we can do to block Trump’s administration from overturning all Obama’s work. They have a conservative government, but we don’t. They need our cooperation to finish this pipeline. Let’s make sure it never happens.
Americans please reblog for your Canadian followers! There are more of you than us, so it will help us reach people we normally wouldn’t.
This may be one of the only viable ways to stop or delay this pipeline (and the associated CO2 emissions), but it needs to be shared widely enough to reach a large amount of Canadians, if it is to be successful.
