Wow, fishing is intense! 🐟 🎣 🐻

Situated at the mouth of the Brooks River and the shore of Naknek Lake, Katmai National Park’s Brooks Falls attracts people from all over the world to watch bears fish for salmon. This bear brawl happened the other day on the bearcam. Watch all the bearcam action live at http://on.doi.gov/1r8UVT5

I could—and will—watch this all day.

Weekend plans: living vicariously through the bearcam. -Ariel

ANOTHER SPECTACULAR FALLING BEAR IN MY TOWN. doesn’t it look like this bear is having the most amazing time trampolining, surrounded by admirers? (this bear was posted up in a tree on campus and wouldn’t leave so they tranquilized it so they could move it up to the mountains.)

my favourite thing is probably the scientific name of the Grizzly bear.

It’s Ursus arctos horribilis. “ursus” meaning bear in Latin and “arctos”, bear in Greek.

so essentially a grizzly is a “horrible bear bear.”

The Eurasian Brown Bear is Ursus arctos arctos

So literally “Bear Bear Bear”. The most bear a bear can be.

So bear. Much roar. Wow.

Also! The Arctic Circle is named for the bears, not the other way ‘round. It’s the Circle With Bears In, and the Antarctic is the Circle (and continent) Away From Bears.

I think we should all start referring to things by their proximity to bears.
