Every time someone tries to explain the metaplot of Supernatural to me, it basically ends up sounding like redneck Dragon Ball Z. I’m sure there’s some nuance I’m failing to grasp here.

Care to elaborate on that?

…I’m not even offended, just absolutely curious.  From the stuff I’ve seen and heard about Supernatural I can’t see the connection.

Mostly, I get the impression of a show that doesn’t know how not to escalate.

Every threat’s gotta be quantitatively bigger and badder than the one that came before. Every deus ex machina’s gotta be shinier than the last one. Every season’s gotta end with a massive eleventh-hour powerup for our heroes, only for the next season to raise the stakes enough to put them back in the underdog position.

It’s like, you beat the Devil himself? Well, now you’ve gotta fight the Devil’s cousin Phil, who has conveniently gone entirely unmentioned up until now, but he’s totally twice as evil.

That last paragraph was literally supposed to be the most ridiculous hypothetical example I could think of, and people are messaging me to say “his name was Metatron, not Phil”. I can’t even make fun of this show.

what she means: it’s 2 am and I can’t stop thinking about the Pied Piper. Initially i thought it was just an old faerie tale but i’ve been reading up on it and it turns out that at some point in the town of Hamelin, a bunch of children really did go missing all at once in fact a stained glass window in the local church in 1300 was made to tell the story AND Hamelin’s written history literally BEGINS in 1384 with the sentence “it is 100 years since our children left.” There are a ton of theories about what the piper could actually represent but historians are pretty much convinced that something did take away children en masse in the 1200s in Hamelin and to this day we still use the phrase “it’s time to pay the piper.” When will we pay him? Who was he???? Like okay I see the theories but what if some flute paying faerie really just led a bunch of kids away in 1284 I cannot get over this.

Please remember that this fight has been a long one, dating back well over two decades and arguably far longer.

Please remember that one of the impetuses for this fight was the AIDS crisis, which remains not truly over. The still vastly imperfect way health insurance has functioned in this country has been another.

Please recognize that this is one piece in a complex puzzle – when we can die for our country, and when our love can be legally recognized as equal, it gets much harder for rationales for other forms of discrimination (e.g., employment, housing) to hold up.

Please consider that this is not just a victory for LGBTQ Americans, but for all of us, recognizing our worth regardless of the potentials of desire.

Please acknowledge that LGBTQ rights are a global battle, and that people local to each fight know the best ways to fight that fight. Let’s support them however it is most helpful to them to do so.

Please do not consider marriage as a way of erasing the very queerness of LGBTQ culture. Instead, consider the ways we can help queer all marriage, the ways we can help equalize it, by helping to break down gender stereotypes and expectations.

So many people did not get to this finish line today. There are other finish lines that so many more will not see.

Be mindful. Be urgent. And above all, today, be joyful anyway.
