For a while there I actually had a backlog of comics, like a responsible webcomic artist. However, what with one thing and another, I managed to burn through my reserve of comics. I thus found myself yesterday afternoon running around the house shouting “I DON’T HAVE A COMIC IDEA FOR TOMORROW”.
And then I found a box of old Star Wars action figures in my closet and one thing led to another and I’m sorry but here you go.
Ironically, I think putting this together took more time than actually drawing a comic would have. There will be a few more of these, because now that I’ve started I can’t just stop without playing with Han, Chewie, and Threepio, but then I promise I’ll get back to proper comics.
Earlier today I made a reference to “Backstroke of the West”, and when I looked it up I saw that the original post was made in 2005, which means that a good chunk of people on here might be too young to remember it. So consider this post a public service.
i saw revenge of the sith last weekend at a local theater with my friend joe who was in town on business. it was much better than the first two movies and a fitting end (err.. middle) to the star wars saga.
the next day i was walking past my friendly dvd salesperson and decided to check out revenge of the sith. i was assured the quality was good and for 7rmb why not give it a shot.
aside from the counters on the top of the screen and a distorted perspective it was ok- not high quality but watchable. the captions were a hilarious surprise- a direct english translation of the chinese interpretation of what the script was saying. it varied from being somewhat close to the script to being ‘far far away’….
amazingly enough, the beginning scroll is mistranslated even though the words are right there on the screen.
star war (just one)
‘the backstroke of the west’ is the english translation of the chinese title.
anakin: “this is where the fun begins”
obi wan: “let them pass between us”
anonymous doomed fighter pilot: “they’re all over me”
I bet this is like the basis of their relationship, though. Rebel command is like, alright go and face certain death doing xzy task. It will be difficult and you have to go fast. Luke is like “pffffff I did that at home so many times only the target was smaller. And moving. And I really couldn’t see that well because sand. This is gonna be cake, guys. CAKE.” Wedge’s reaction the first couple times, even after the death star, is basically that picture. But eventually he’s like sweet space jesus what terrible planet are you from that you keep telling me all these nigh impossible tasks are cake? Everyone’s like oh skywalker is a softie. He’s a squishy ball of love and sunshine, and wedge is like yeah. That is all extremely true but he is also MADE OF TEMPERED DEATH.
(After like the first 3 times Luke starts messing with Wedge. He’s like they want us do run these cables to the bottom of that extremely ominous cravasse? I did that one time when I was five, and uncle owen had me wire the relays with my toes because we had to shoot down this pack of anoobas that were trying to kill us and eat us. Wedge is just like that can’t be true, and yet…)
I really hope Wedge is still alive so that Rey can be all “On my crappy desert planet…” and Wedge can be all “OH GOD NOT AGAIN.”
can you imagine if tumblr was around when the original star wars came out and in the two year gap between movies there were heated arguments between luke/leia shippers and han/leia shippers and all kind of vague posts and fandom wank and thousands of luke/leia fics on ao3 and people devotedly making gifsets of luke/leia with florence + the machine lyrics only for it be revealed that they were SIBLINGS like can you imagine the fallout
