Discord recently banned their nazi community.  Let’s have Tumblr do the same.  Hundreds of neo-nazi and white supremacists feel at home on Tumblr and that needs to change.

They don’t respond to reports and apparently won’t care about anything other than intense negative publicity – so this is the best we can do for now.

———————-

Following Discord’s recent shutdown of racist alt-right servers, we ask that Tumblr takes neo-nazis and other white supremacy groups more seriously instead of repeatedly ignoring reports on violent language.

I’ve reported several neo-nazi types to staff, including those who have posts like “gas the k-kes” and “kill n-gger apes” alongside nazi imagery and romanticized portraits of Hitler.  This is the response I get every time.

> Hello,

> Thanks for bringing this to our attention; we really appreciate your efforts to make

> Tumblr a safer place for everyone.

> We do strongly suggest you block this user. You can find out more about how to

> do that here: https://www.tumblr.com/docs/en/social#blockactions

Tumblr staff – by ignoring the rampant and violent hate problem within their community – are providing a safe place for violent fascists and other racists to feel at home.

This specially ironic since Tumblr pretends to stand with Charlottesville victims despite actively hosting neo-nazi groups (look under the tag #fashblr).

It’s outrageous that Tumblr staff refuses to ban these hate communities, and even more insulting that they pretend to be at the forefront of social justice.  We want our communities to feel safe, and that cannot continue with the large neo-nazi presence.  Multiple have already died in the past few months because of this ideology.

It’s clear that Tumblr will not respond to anything except negative publicity or advertisers leaving their network.  So please let them know how the Tumblr community feels by signing and sharing.

What we need to happen:

1. Take reports more seriously.  Do not just ask the user to block a dangerous user.

2. Explicitly condemn this hate speech in your Terms of Service.  Although it already is to an extent, staff does not seem to follow their own rules.

3. Stop giving a safe place for Nazis and white nationalists.  This behavior has NO place on Tumblr and you must remove those inciting hatred and violence.

4. Assign moderators to deal with this issue internally.

Thank you for your help.

ACTION ALERT: Almost There On Health Care!

autisticadvocacy:

The Senate thought that this was the week they could repeal the Affordable Care Act and destroy Medicaid, but your persistence made them think twice. Last night, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that they didn’t have the votes–but there’s a catch. Now, in a last desperate attempt to take your health care away, the Senate is moving to vote on full repeal – a bill which would strip away the protections of the ACA without any kind of replacement. We can still make them back down and give up this disastrous fight for good–but they won’t do that without hearing from you.

Here’s what’s at stake:

  • Health insurance for 32 million Americans
  • Access to the care we need, regardless of disability or pre-existing condition
  • Coverage for mental health, maternity care, occupational and speech therapy, prescription medications, and more
  • Protection from discriminatory insurance practices such as annual and lifetime caps on coverage

Here’s what you can do:

  • Attend local actions and events. Today is a day of action for hundreds of community groups across the country, with more coming in the days ahead. Families USA has a list of upcoming rallies and events in many states. If you don’t see a local action on the list, try searching online for “upcoming healthcare rallies [name of your state]” to find other organizations near you that may have upcoming events. Check out the Center for Public Representation’s Action Center for more ways to get involved.
  • Go to your Senators’ local offices and tell their staff what you think. To find your Senators’ local offices, visit contactingcongress.org. Under the contact information for each Senator, there is a list of their local offices. You can contact or visit these offices to set up a constituent meeting – this is one of the most effective ways to get your point across to an elected official.
  • Keep calling. You can find your Senators’ contact information by entering your ZIP code at contactingcongress.org. If you find it easier to leave an answering machine message than to talk to a staffer on the phone, you can call after work hours, and your message will still be counted. If you don’t speak, you can call using your AAC device, or get a friend to call in and read your message. Here’s a script you can use:

My name is [your full name]. I’m a constituent of Senator [Name] , and I live in [your town]. I’m calling to ask the Senator to vote NO on repealing the Affordable Care Act. If this bill is passed, 32 million Americans will lose health insurance. This bill takes away protections that patients depend on, and it will return us to the bad old days when people with disabilities like [me/ my family member/ my friends] were uninsurable. We can’t go back. Please vote AGAINST repealing the Affordable Care Act. It’s time for Congress to scrap repeal, leave Medicaid alone, and work together to improve the ACA. We’re counting on you to do the right thing.

  • Share your story by participating in the Arc’s emergency Medicaid Matters to Me Letter Writing Campaign. If you or a loved one rely on Medicaid or a waiver for health insurance or other disability services, take a moment to write a letter to your Senators explaining why Medicaid matters to you, and email it to jorwic@thearc.org. Make sure to include your state in the subject line, and send the email by midnight on Wednesday. The Arc will print your letters and hand deliver to them to your Senators!

Senate leadership says they will replace the ACA later. But after everything they’ve tried this year, we know better than to hand them a blank check.  It’s time for Congress to start over and work together on a meaningful, bipartisan basis to improve the Affordable Care Act and make health care better for all of us. Your voices and your advocacy have already made an incredible impact. Let’s make this week the final push to win this fight, once and for all.

My senator is Pat Toomey, one of the authors of the bill. I’ll admit I’m having trouble coming up with a script for calling him that isn’t “EAT IT, DOUCHEBAG.”

The young man who survived having his throat cut in the MAX attack that left two other men dead, says he appreciates all the support aimed at him but people are focusing on the wrong victims.

Micah

Fletcher urged people to donate money to a fundraising campaign for the girls.

What it means to be a true hero.

“The little girl who had the misfortune to experience what happened on that MAX, her life is never going to be the same,” said Fletcher, filmed in a bedroom while wearing a bathrobe. Two African-American teenagers, one of whom is Muslim and was wearing a hijab, were verbally attacked last Friday by Jeremy Joseph Christian, authorities said.“Imagine that for a second – being the little girl on the MAX,” Fletcher said. “This man is screaming at you, his face is a pile of knives, his body is a gun. Everything about him is cocked, loaded and ready to kill you.”There’s a history here with this, you can feel that this has happened before, the only thing that was different was the names and faces. And then a stranger, two strangers, three strangers, come to your aid, they try to help you and that pile of knives just throws itself at them, kills them.“

Fletcher said he appreciates the kindness directed toward him and the families of the two men. This outpouring can be attributed, “to put it bluntly, (to) this white savior complex,” said Fletcher, who is white.“We need to remember this is about those little girls,” he said. “I need you, if you really want to support me, to like this, to share it, whatever, and make it spread like wildfire.”

A YouCaring page has been set up to collect money for the girls.“The funds will go toward basic necessities like meals and transportation, as they feel unsafe to ride public transportation after their experience,” the page said. “Most importantly, funds will go toward mental health services to ensure their mental and emotional welfare.“In an interview with ABC News, Fletcher also spoke about defending his community.“If you live here, move here, or if you want to call this city home, it is your home,” he told ABC News. “And we must protect each other like that is the truth, no matter what the consequences.”

If you’ve been deeply affected by reading “My Family’s Slave” here are some general concrete things you can do.

1) Understand and tell other people that this is not only something that happens in the Philippines. It happens in many other countries. Probably on every continent. For example, in Haiti, they’re called restaveks. Across South Asia, many child slaves work in the textile industry. Don’t treat this as an individual personal failing done only by a few bad people when it’s a vast economic system that thrives in secrecy and which many of us indirectly benefit from.

2) There’s no true ethical consumption but you can at least not support industries, companies or entire economies heavily involved in modern day slavery. Cut out visiting Dubai, for example (although I don’t know anyone that rich).

3) Support transnational unions of service and domestic workers.

4) If you or anyone you know employs domestic workers, talk to them discreetly and compassionately. Ask what they need and how you can support them. Ask who takes care of THEIR kids. Keep your eyes open.

5) Look at any local laws that passively encourage these exploitative relationships and work towards changing them. Immigration law is a huge issue in this area. Undocumented workers scared to come forward because they don’t want to be deported, for example.

6) Fight for feminism and disability rights because women and disabled people are especially vulnerable. I remember in the 90s there was a vast Mexican slave ring that enslaved deaf Mexicans and made them beg on the subways in NYC for money. I gave money to some of these people not knowing that they were kept as slaves and had to turn all their money over to their slavemasters at night, and it shocked the hell out of me. Private charity doesn’t work – these people need living wages, independence, legal advocates. All fixes on a systemic basis.

I’m just adding this link about the Mexican slave ring in NYC because I was on mobile when I wrote the above post. The ending to the story is fairly happy, but things like that are still happening on a smaller scale in this and other countries.

since it’s a scary time to be trans: refuge restrooms is an app which maps gender-neutral/single-stall restrooms. it’s community-mapped, so it’s possible you might be the first person to log the restroom locations, but hopefully it’ll help some people.

please reblog this post if you’ve got trans followers. stay safe.

For my non-trans followers: please consider getting the app just so you can add neutral restrooms to the map when you run across them. Simple way to help.

It is our duty as feminists to protect and respect women in Hijabs

Now. More. Than. Ever.

Question: if I see someone pull off a Hijab, what should I do? I know there are reasons they are worn so I want to if i should stand in between them and who did this, should i protect them from view somehow, or something else? This has been happening a lot so I feel it’s something everyone needs to know.

Good question! I cannot correctly and effectively answer, as I am a white, non-Muslim person; however, I will reblog in case any of my followers can answer.

I asked my Hijabi friend, so here’s one Hijabi’s answer:

“my opinion is, definitely try cover them or give them something to cover themselves with. And perhaps shoo off the person, without putting oneself in danger! God forbid, if that happened to me, I would like someone to come and comfort me and give me something to cover my hair with and then help me report it to the cops

(Followers, if any of you are hijabi and would like to expand on this answer or offer alternatives, please do.)

If u see it happen to 1 of us, pls cover our head + hair with a coat or shawl or any piece of cloth, while hugging us in comfort. Please don’t get hurt by lashing out @ the perpetrators in any way, coz if they dare to do that, they’re probably too far gone in their own hatred to listen to any reason. Much love + Thank You to anyone who supports us.

yes !! everything said here is important af. if you see someone pull off a girl’s hijab immediately cover her hair and provide comfort. don’t talk to the perpetrator but try to get the woman out of there if you can. maybe if you have a scarf on you at the time give it to her so she can wear it until she’s alone and can replace her hijab. please please protect muslim girls because we already had it hard before donald trump became president and now its gonna be worse with people going around thinking their violence and cruelty is justified

for my other white ppl who might have a hard time, it’s my understanding that a hijab is like a major item of clothing, not an accessory like a hat or a scarf.
so think abt it more like if someone just ripped someone’s shirt or skirt off. u don’t want to be left there exposed or have to walk home without it.

everyone, even outside America needs to protect our Muslim sisters in these times.

as a man, what would be the best thing to do? should i turn my head and avoid looking at their hair? can i still offer a jacket or something similar?

^I’m hoping someone has an answer islamaphpbia is on the rise in my town and I want to be a good male non Muslim ally

For men, yes please, we would prefer it if you avoided looking at our hair, and if we don’t have something to substitute as a hijab at that moment, anything you could lend us, a jacket, etc, would be very appreciated.

Also, since most girls avoid physical contact with men they’re not related to, please do not hug them, but rather shoo the offender away if you can, or at least escort the girl to a safe place. You can still offer words of encouragement and support. Furthermore, understand that the victim may not be very welcoming towards you because she’ll obviously be shaken, and won’t know where you are coming from. If that’s the case, please still give her something to cover herself (hijab is very important, think of it as someone ripping your shirt off) and stand some distance away until you are sure she’s in safe hands.

Thank you so much for your support, we really appreciate it, god bless all of you.

In the horrible climate we’re currently in, please take note of this.

Reblogging this again for the guy-instructions

IMPORTANT INFO FOR WHAT’S CURRENTLY HAPPENING IN TRUMP’S AMERICA: a lot of unwarranted raids are happening across the U.S right now. The latest states that have been targeted by this massive sweep is California, Arizona, Texas, and now Georgia. Over 100 people have been detained, most likely without a warrant. And before someone says “they’re just keeping the criminals out!1!”, lawyers who were able to consult some of the people detained did not have a criminal record. There have also been reports of officers trailing kids walking home from school to lead to their parents.  These officers DO NOT. HAVE. THE RIGHT. TO DETAIN PEOPLE. WITHOUT. A WARRANT.

KNOW YOUR RIGHTS AND DON’T FORGET TO #RESIST

Here’s some more info on what’s happening in Georgia

I told you the Muslims were the first step. They’re coming after Latinos with no criminal records in their own homes now. Three minutes from my house they detained over 100 people yesterday and literally dragged them out of their houses. They are pulling drivers over on the streets asking for papers. They are following school buses home and arresting parents when they meet the children at the stops. They’re not releasing the names of anyone they have apprehended. They’re not answering any questions from journalists/CHIRLA/the public or giving reasons as to why they’re detaining people without access to immigration attorneys. ICE has gone rogue and it seems to be in retaliation for the 9th circuit ruling against the Muslim Ban. It was clear that the Justice Department was losing during arguments on Tuesday and about 24 hours later random raids all across the country started happening? Not a coincidence.

Meanwhile on Twitter, Republicans are challenging each other to see who can report more “illegal looking people” to the ICE tip line. There are accounts proudly boasting their report tallies and encouraging more to follow suit. Others are saying they reported their neighbors or friends of friends. Any resemblance to Nazi Germany is not unintentional. Be safe out there. We’ve waded into very dangerous territory.

I don’t have a lot of followers, but any of you who can translate this in other languages, especially Arabic and French, please add to this post!

There has been a rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans since Trump singled out China and Japan as foreign enemies along with ISIS.

The vast majority of these crimes have been anti-Chinese and anti-Chinese violence has been rising in some areas since 2015, but as usual Sinophobia is hurting everyone who could be mistaken for Chinese.

AAAJ (Asian Americans Advancing Justice) has created a website here where you can report anti-Asian hate crimes.

This is real life! This is real shit happening to real people! I don’t want to hear any more discourse that acts like Asians or Chinese people in particular are gonna be safe or don’t need to worry about the new regime
